A custom Design Becomes a Log Home
Rick and Lisa Hood built the home they’d dreamed of in Morganton, North Carolina, in 2018.
“We have found that our Honest Abe Log home provides the warmth that we so desired,” the Hoods said. “With the front porch, large back deck, and the open floor plan, we never want to leave. Since we have recently retired, we are so thankful that Honest Abe built our forever comfortable log home.”

Cooking with Lavender
Lavender is a fragrant herb that has a distinctive floral flavor and is commonly used in cooking and baking. Both fresh and dried lavender can be used in cooking, but they should be used differently to achieve the best results. Since this fragrant and versatile herb is at its peak in May, we are sharing some ideas for enjoying it in the kitchen.
The Suiter Plan
The 12″ D-Log Eastern white pine Cloud 9 cabin, positioned on one of the highest peaks in Gatlinburg, has a 360-degree view encompassing landmarks like Mt. LeConte, Ober Gatlinburg and Clingman’s Dome.
It was designed by Honest Abe’s Michael Hix as a replica of a splendid long-leaf pine cabin built in the 1980s that was one of the 2,460 structures engulfed by the November 2016 wildfires that also took 14 lives and caused $500 million in damage.
This original plan was a 2022 Jerry Rouleau Award winner for log home design.
