Wilderness View Cabin

Jay and Kim Schwartz shared their story of how they designed and built their dream home in the Linville Gorge Wilderness area in North Carolina.

“We decided to build in this location for the natural beauty that surrounds it,” Kim said. “Our favorite thing about our home is the multiple living spaces are integrated with nature.”

 Tips

Gone is the refrigerator that had a freezer on top and a cooling space underneath. While you can certainly find those, today’s refrigerators offer tray storage, transitional compartments for freezing and cooling, beverage service stations and panels that can hide the refrigerator in the cabinetry of the kitchen or butler’s pantry. The sales and design teams at Honest Abe Log Homes will work to understand your needs, your style and how much entertaining you do so they create a floor plan that accommodates the size and style of refriderator right for your new home.

10 Tips for creating a relaxing and interesting porch.

Pioneer Cooking

In honor of National Log Home Month, we’re looking back at how American pioneers, many of whom most likely lived in log homes, would have prepared meals. While there are many recipes that were popular among pioneers that would still be good today, cornbread was a staple then and in many parts of the U.S. remains a favorite.

The Patterson Cabin Plan

The Patterson Cabin was designed as a starter home for a young couple. The 1,440 SF cabin  is completely encircled by 8’ wide covered porches.

More than one half the one-story space is the open dining area, kitchen and living room.

The master bedroom has a full bath and huge storage closet. A separate bedroom is near the additional full bath. The laundry room is in a separate room.

To read the story of how this plan emerged, read the couple’s story, “Staying True to their Roots,” and view their photos here.
