A View from the Porch
Bobbette and Paul Smith’s secluded weekend getaway is the appropriate choice as the August featured home, since this issue of Honest Abe Living focuses on porches and outdoor living.
The Smith’s main requirement for their new Honest Abe vacation home was a porch overlooking their private lake and waterfall in front and another one in back for viewing the forest and creek.
Now they say that their porches are their favorite areas of the house, which is both spacious and cozy and definately welcoming.

Air-Fryer Pickles
Fried pickles originated in the Southern United States. If it’s possible to fry, Southerners fry it. With the recent popularity of the air fryer, many recipes are being converted to use. Amanda Hatcher, chef for McFarland Creek Outdoors, an Honest Abe sister company, shares one of her favorite recipes using her air fryer.
The Patriot – compact and comfortable
The Patriot is a mid-sized plan that offers plenty of room. It has 1,404 SF above ground with another 864 SF in the optional finished basement.
The main floor has a bedroom, kitchen and combination living and dining area. A full bath is centrally located to all the rooms and easily accessed from the back deck through either the kitchen or living room.
On the second floor there are two bedrooms with a shared full bath. The walkout basement has two bedrooms, a den, a full bath and a laundry.
As with any of Honest Abe Log Homes’ floor plans, the Patriot can be constructed from a variety of materials. The log and shown in the rendering is a beautiful combination, but it can just as easily be erected with timber frame construction or even with SIP.
